‘Ludwig’ Season 2 Makes Murder a Family Affair for Episode 3
“Does this sort of thing run in the family, or are you normal?”
Ludwig gives us a glimpse of Cambridge’s ancient heart as Episode 3 opens. We follow glamorous businesswoman Tiffany Catley, aka TiffyCat (DuJonna Gift), through dark and deserted streets. She’s afraid, and we know this won’t end well. We don’t know her destination, but when she reaches the (fictional) Scholar’s Fountain, she is murdered.
Back at the Betts-Taylor household, Lucy is singing a nursery rhyme as she wakes John with a cup of tea. It’s a dark Saturday morning, and John is grumpy at the interruption of his sleep. He’s also offended that Lucy wants to delve into his id by asking him about his dreams. But Lucy wants him to create embedded questions for her interview with (probably crooked Tory MP) Joanne Kemper – questions that will elicit a subconscious response, just like John’s cryptic crossword clues. The interview is at 4 p.m. that day, and mild panic ensues until Lucy’s teenage son, Henry Betts-Taylor, joins them to point out the interview is actually on Monday.
John reluctantly agrees to go into the office to access James’s cases on the official police database. As Lucy drives, she reminds him his colleagues are his friends (sort of), and it’s fine to pop in on the weekend. Dividers and desks are being moved around, but he finds Russell’s desk, and then Russell finds him. He’s been up all night, leading the Scholar’s Fountain murder case. With great patience, Russell explains to John that the department sometimes has murder cases John isn’t involved in.
