Benjamin Wainwright Talks ‘Maigret’s Trauma in Season 2
Ben Wainwright sat down for an in-depth conversation about 'Maigret's heavy themes.
Dogged investigator Jules Maigret is back on PBS’s Sunday night roster, bringing viewers exactly the right weekly dose of rumpled Parisian chic, slightly gruff camaraderie, and sincere lovey-doveyness between Maigret (Ben Wainwright) and his wife, Louise (Stefanie Martini, who’s having quite a run on PBS this fall, also co-starring in The Gold). Also, there’s first-rate crime-solving!
We were moving house last year, so we missed covering most of this new-model Maigret’s first season, and are very happy to be back to recapping the second season’s mysteries, episode by episode. While Masterpiece has not yet confirmed if the series will continue for Season 3, it recently landed a pickup in the U.K., and Season 1 will debut in December 2026 on U&Drama, with Season 2 to follow in the first half of 2027, suggesting the network is expecting a Season 3 by the end of next year. We’re keeping an eye out for any developments and will share them as we receive them.
Maigret himself, Ben Wainwright (Belgravia), sat down with Telly Visions for an in-depth conversation about this season’s themes which get into some fairly heavy, even existential, questions. Is Maigret’s department willing to support police work the way he does it? Will he and Louise be able to have children? We also talked a little bit about what’s to come for the rest of Season 2.
