‘A Remarkable Place to Die’ Places Another Tombstone for Season 2
'A Remarkable Place to Die' returns for Season 2 and another murder in the mountains.
Acorn TV has announced the return of A Remarkable Place to Die, the New Zealand-set mystery whose title plays on the Kiwi mountain range known as “The Remarkables.” Screentime New Zealand originally produced the series, which premiered at the 2024 London Screenings and was later picked up by Acorn TV in early 2025. We missed the formal renewal of the series (which came at the end of 2025), and thus were pleasantly surprised to discover filming had already concluded and that the series will debut before the end of 2026.
Season 1 introduced determined homicide detective Anaís Mallory (Chelsie Preston Crawford), who returns to her hometown of Queenstown, New Zealand after a stellar policing career in Sydney, as detectives from big cities seem wont to do in TV series. Technically, she’s transferring because she’s landed the role of the town’s lead detective; in reality, she is hoping to unravel the truth behind the deaths of her father and sister. Instead, she’s forced to confront her strained relationship with her mother and the ghosts of her past, including her ex-fiancé, now married to her ex-best friend.
Season 2 will not bring back the ex-fiancé, but it will kill off the ex-best friend, whose death prompts Mallory to dig deeper into the town’s well-kept secrets.
Here’s Acorn TV’s version of the synopsis:
Since bringing her sister’s killer to justice, Detective Anais Mallory is still haunted by one unanswered question: why was she killed? After the discovery of Maja Staunton’s body on display, Anais is convinced the two deaths are connected and secretly launches her own investigation into Maja’s murder. But her search quickly attracts unwanted attention. Someone knows Anais is digging into Maja’s death, and they are determined to stop her before she gets too close to the truth.

Crawford (My Life Is Murder) returns as Anais Mallory; she is once again joined by Rebecca Gibney (Halifax) as Veronica Mallory, Anais’ mother; Matt Whelan (The Gone) as DS Simon Delaney; Roimata Fox (Chief of War) as Sgt Hoana Rata; Lynette Forday (Under the Vines) as DI Sharon Li Feng; Michala Banas (Blue Murder Motel) as Kylie Shorrock; Dahnu Graham (Sweet Tooth) as PC Jarrod Renner; and no-longer-a-newcomer Utsa Chatterjee as Anjali Bali.
Season 2 supporting cast returnees also include Milo Cawthorne (The Brokenwood Mysteries), Mark Mitchinson (East of Eden), Indiana Evans (Thor: Love & Thunder), JJ Fong (Friday Night Bites), and Mirabai Pease (Kill Room). Season 2 additions include Luke Arnold (Scrublands), Stephane Garneau (Kin), and Ryan Carter (The Secrets She Keeps).
