Netflix to Debut ‘Pride & Prejudice’ for the Holidays
Netflix’s 'Pride & Prejudice' sets a release date, but the disaster that was 'Persuasion' continues to haunt the narrative.
The first images are here from Netflix’s attempt to remake Pride & Prejudice. While everything looks to be in order, memories of the disaster that was Persuasion continue to haunt the narrative.
The good news is that, despite our deep misgivings about Jack Lowden as Mr. Darcy, the first image of him looking all angsty on the moors almost works. There are still way too many muscles on him; it’s giving James Bond-as-Darcy (which tracks, if one believes Gary Oldman telling everyone Lowden is being set up to take over the Ian Fleming franchise). Emma Corrin, as always, somehow looks absolutely perfect; they’re like the slightly enby Elizabeth Bennet you didn’t know you needed in your life.
However, the rest of the Bennets are also included in the first-look photos. Again, we’ll wait to pass judgment until there’s a trailer and first clips. Still, something feels slightly off about them, from Rufus Sewell doing his best Ben Franklin imitation as Mr. Bennet to Olivia Colman’s teeth-baring Mama Bennet. It remains to be seen whether any of the sisters outside of Jane are given much to do, but they are sweet-looking kids.
(Considering that Ella Broccoleri just took ownership of Mary Bennet for the foreseeable future in the next generation’s imagination due to The Other Bennet Sister, it may be best to keep the other three siblings in the background.)

Here’s the series synopsis:
Pride and Prejudice, one of the most iconic novels of all time, comes to Netflix as an all-new 6-part limited series. The series will be a faithful, classic adaptation of the novel.
When wealthy bachelors arrive in their neighborhood, the five Bennet sisters must navigate love, family, and society’s expectations to secure their futures. Jane falls for the charming Mr Bingley, while Elizabeth clashes with his proud friend Mr Darcy – but unexpected encounters and family scandals force Elizabeth to reconsider her feelings and discover the true nature of love.
Corrin (The Crown) stars as Elizabeth Bennet, and Lowden (The Gold) as Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. The rest of the family ensemble features Colman (The Favourite) as Mrs. Bennet, Sewell (The Diplomat) as Mr. Bennet, Freya Mavor (Marie Antoinette) as Jane Bennet, Rhea Norwood (Heartstopper) as Lydia Bennet, with newcomers Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery as Mary and Lydia Bennet, respectively.
The rest of the main cast includes Daryl McCormack (The Woman in the Wall) as Mr. Bingley, Siena Kelly (Domino Day) as Caroline Bingley, Jamie Demetriou (Barbie) as Mr. Collins, Louis Partridge (Enola Holmes) as Mr. Wickham, and Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve) as Lady Catherine de Bourgh.

Justin Edwards (The Franchise) is Sir William Lucas, James Northcote (The Last Kingdom) is Colonel Forster, Eloise Webb (Sanditon) is Harriet Forster, and Isabella Sermon (Jurassic World) will be Georgiana Darcy.

Dolly Alderton (Everything I Know About Love) penned all episodes, with Euros Lyn (Heartstopper) directing and Lisa Osborne producing. Lyn and Corrin executive produce alongside Laura Lankester, Will Johnston & Louise Mutter for Lookout Point.
The new Pride and Prejudice series will arrive on Netflix with all episodes on Thursday, December 3, 2026.
The Other Bennet Sister
Netflix’s terrible version of Persuasion is technically available to stream. However, we highly recommend skipping it and checking out The Other Bennet Sister on BritBox instead, which will also air new episodes in December 2026 with a three-part Christmas special.
