‘Only Murders In the Building’ Gains Multiple Doctors for London Season
'Only Murders in the Building' heads to London for Season 6 with an entirely stacked British cast eager to line up as the usual suspects.
Hulu’s smash hit Only Murders in the Building probably should have ended at least a couple of seasons ago. The New York City-based old-fashioned show-within-a-show comedy, starring Steve Martin (The Muppet Movie), Martin Short (Schmigadoon!), and Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez), has pushed the boundaries of how many people can die in one building (even if it is the size of a city block). It tried moving to Los Angeles for Season 4 (Not Great Bob!), and then managed to make a decent (if not triumphant) return to New York in Season 5. For Season 6, the series is going on the road again, this time to London, which means a very British cast finally getting a chance to guest star in the hit series.
Despite the show floundering after it shifted to L.A., moving the team to London for a season may work much better. Unlike Los Angeles, which is a car-based sprawl of a county, London is much more like New York in a physical sense. The people who live there are also the kind who believe their city is the center of the universe, and ancient buildings with hidden back corridors are plentiful.
The show is also a massive hit in the U.K. There’s a reason that, within a year or two of Only Murders crossing the pond, the BBC started pumping out shows that were mashups of “case-of-the-week mystery-crime-comedy-drama” like Death Valley and Ludwig. Moreover, there is an entire phalanx of BBC actors who are apparently chomping at the bit to work with the podcasting team whose main detecting credit is that one of them used to star in a police procedural show called Brazzos.
There’s no official synopsis for the new season. However, for those who have fallen away and did not watch Season 5, last season ended with a brand-new victim, who viewers were led to believe was Cinda Canning (Tina Fey), the woman who originally inspired the trio to start a murder-investigation podcast.
The new season will take Charles-Haden Savage (Martin), Oliver Putnam (Short), and Mabel Mora (Gomez) across the pond to London as they investigate yet another murder that’s technically someplace other than the Arconia. Martin, Short, and Gomez will be joined in Season 6 by only two of the usual American ensemble members: Michael Cyril Creighton (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Howard Morris and Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The United States vs. Billie Holiday) as DI Donna Williams.
As for the British talent, we start with not one, but two ex-Doctors: David Tennant and Jodie Whittaker. (There will be TARDIS jokes, or we riot.) We also have two Bridgerton stars, Nicola Coughlan and Simone Ashley. (Chances of Lady Whistledown easter eggs are high.) If that weren’t enough, the production also rounded up several PBS favorites with Derek Jacobi (I Claudius), Lesley Nichol (Downton Abbey), Matthew Beard (Vienna Blood), Jane Horrocks (COBRA), and Martin Freeman (Sherlock).
The rest of the cast is just as ridiculously stacked. Among those who have signed on for the London-based season, the guest star roster includes the legendary Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous), plus well known actors Jim Broadbent (Bridget Jones), Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters), Richard Ayoade (The IT Crowd), Kathryn Hunter (Black Doves), Sean Teale (The Gold), Anjana Vasan (We Are Lady Parts), Amar Chadha-Patel (Fifteen-Love), Rhea Norwood (Heartstopper), Adrian Lukis (The Crown), and Jamie Demetriou (Pride & Prejudice). It even includes former Spice Girl, Geri Halliwell-Horner (Spice World).
The series hails from co-creators and writers Martin and John Hoffman and 20th Television. Season 6 executive producers include Hoffman, Martin, Short, and Gomez, as well as Dan Fogelman, Jess Rosenthal, Ben Smith, Jennifer Crittenden & Gabrielle Allan.
Production on Only Murders in the Building Season 6 is currently underway in the U.K. and is expected to air in late 2026 or early 2027. Seasons 1 through 5 are streaming on Disney+ and Hulu in the U.S.
