‘Professor T’ Season 5 Polishes Up a PBS Release Date
'Professor T' returns to PBS for Season 5, as Season 4 finally premieres in the U.K.
It has been nearly a year since Professor T Season 5 wrapped filming in August 2025. The U.K.-set remake of the popular Belgian series was the fourth attempt after German, French, and Czech versions all launched with varying levels of success in the late twenty-teens. When it premiered in 2021, the series was one of the first to be exclusive to ITV’s newly created (and extremely short-lived) “BritBox U.K.” on the far side of the pond, but not BritBox U.S. over here, debuting on the British-based service in 2021 before premiering on PBS.
ITV’s BritBox experiment barely lasted a year before it was folded into the more successful ITVX. Still, without its original streaming service promoting it, the show stopped being as much of a priority, with PBS finally starting to debut the series first with Season 4.
(This is not the only ITV show to reverse which country debuted it first in the last few years as the network slowly collapsed – Grantchester now airs in the U.K. six months after its PBS run, and Van der Valk Season 4 still hasn’t premiered on ITV, despite having aired on Masterpiece two years ago.)
Professor T Season 4 is finally catching up in the U.K., with an August 2026 release date. Meanwhile, PBS continues to be the first network to air the series, setting a return date for Season 5 in October 2026.
The Season 5 synopsis is pretty generalized:
With six brand new episodes featuring some unexpected new relationships and more complex crimes for the Professor and police unit to tackle; including a boxing match that takes a bloody turn and a series of inexplicable sudden deaths at an upmarket spa, many favorite characters will face some tough choices, and the stakes for Professor T and his team have never been higher.
Ben Miller (Death in Paradise) returns as the titular Professor Jasper Tempest; he co-stars with Frances de la Tour (Enola Holmes) as his mother, Adelaide Tempest; Zoe Wanamaker (Bergerac) as his aunt, Zelda Radclyffe; Juliet Stevenson (The Long Call) as therapist Dr. Helena Goldberg; Sunetra Sarker (Playing Nice) as boss DCI Maiya Goswami; Barney White (Masters of the Air) as DS Dan Winters; and Rhian Blundell (Torchwood) as DS Chloe Highsmith.
Stephen Brady returns to pen Season 5 after taking over the series from original scribe Matt Baker in Season 3. Directors Kaat Beels and Joel Vanhoebrouck, return to helm Season 5 after taking the reins from Dries Vos, who helmed the first three seasons. Baker is the producer; executive producers are Walter Iuzzolino, Jo McGrath, and Alison Kee for Eagle Eye Drama.
Professor T Season 5 will debut on most PBS stations, the PBS app, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel on Sunday, October 18, 2026. All six episodes will be available for members on PBS Passport on premiere day as a binge.
Professor T Seasons 1 through 4 are available to stream on PBS Passport, as are all three seasons of the Belgian original.
