Starz’s ‘You Are Here’ Adaptation Rounds Out Cast
Starz's buzzy David Nicholls adaptation will film later this year.
Starz and the BBC’s buzzy adaptation of bestselling author David Nicholls’ novel, You Are Here, is beefing up its cast ahead of the start of production later this year.
Matthew Macfadyen (Death by Lightning) and Claire Foy (The Crown) have already been announced to play the series’ leads, Mitchell and Marnie, who are brought together by a mutual friend on a long-distance walk across northern England. Their relationship deepens as the trip continues and they share witty conversation, drunken antics, and thoughtful meditations on middle age, all set against the beautiful backdrop of the Lake District.
The Emmy winners will be joined by Karla Crome (Toxic Town) as Cleo, the aforementioned mutual friend who sets everyone up on the walking tour that changes their lives; Josiah Green-Mhlanga (Andy & the Band) as Cleo’s son Anthony; and Tom Stourton (Industry) as Conrad, a friend of Cleo’s husband who is a reluctant addition to the trip.
Nicholls is probably best known for his hit novel One Day, which sold over six million copies and was adapted into both a feature film starring Anne Hathaway and a hit Netflix series featuring Leo Woodall and Ambika Mod. (Other noteworthy titles include Starter for 10 and Us, the latter of which was adapted and aired on Masterpiece.) However, he’s also an accomplished screenwriter who snagged a BAFTA win and an Emmy nomination for his work on Patrick Melrose.
Here’s the series synopsis.
When a mutual friend throws them together, Marnie and Michael unexpectedly find themselves setting off on an epic walk. Against the odds, they end up on the brink of a relationship that neither was looking for, but which might be exactly the one they both need.
You Are Here is about finding a connection when you least expect it and overcoming the obstacles of midlife. Treading the tricky path from loneliness to love, Marnie and Michael go coast-to-coast across the stunning (and sometimes soaking) English countryside, navigating an undeniable attraction that is as exhilarating as it is terrifying.
Nicholls penned all episodes of the series, which were directed by Lenny Abrahamson (Normal People), with Clare Shepherd as producer. Both also serve as executive producers alongside Foy and Macfadyen, with Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, and Emma Norton for Element Pictures, and Jonny Richards and Anna Ferguson for the BBC.
You Are Here will be filmed in the Lake District and around Manchester later in 2026. It does not yet have a release date on either side of the pond.
