An All-Star Cast Join Damson Idris on ‘The Lord’s Day’
Netflix reveals the all-star cast joining Damson Idris in 'The Lord’s Day'
For most streaming services, if an adaptation of a bestseller does well, the logical choice is to follow up with more adaptations from the same author. However, that wasn’t the case with House of Cards, the show that made Netflix a force to be reckoned with. The political thriller was based on the 1980s-era novel by British author Michael Dobbs, who has several more best-sellers to his name. However, the series concluded back in 2018, after suffering an ignominious collapse in the wake of lead Kevin Spacey’s removal following allegations of sexual misconduct, so perhaps it wasn’t surprising that Netflix shelved anything more from Dobbs for nearly a decade.
Eight years on, Netflix perhaps feels that enough time has passed for producers to feel safe returning to Dobbs’ political machinations. The landscape is also changing – Netflix is no longer quite the dominant force it was five years ago, for one thing. For another, Amazon now has full control of the James Bond franchise, which means Netflix finds itself needing to compete in the British Spy series space. To that end, the streaming service announced in March 2026 it was adapting the first in Dobbs’ Harry Jones series, The Lord’s Day, starring Damson Idris as a Black British Pseudo-Bond.
If Netflix is successful in launching the Harry Jones books, there’s a good stash of them written that could spawn into a full-on franchise. In addition to the 2007 debut novel The Lord’s Day, Dobbs wrote five more, ending with 2013’s A Ghost at the Door. Currently it looks like the streaming service is planning on it, with an all-star lineup joining Idris for the inaugural adaptation.

Here’s the series synopsis:
On the State Opening of Parliament, British spy Harry Jones finds himself inside the iconic building amidst a lockdown. As the siege escalates, loyalties are tested and selfless sacrifices are made, leading to a desperate fight for survival where not everyone will emerge alive. Can Harry use his skills and training to be the country’s savior?

Idris leads the cast as Harry Jones. He’ll be joined by Harry Lawtey (Industry), Arsema Thomas (Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story), Sophie Willan (Ludwig), Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones), and Timothy Spall (Death Valley).
Vincent and Jonathan Brackley (MI-5) will pen all six episodes; director Ben Chanan (of the deeply slept-on The Capture) helms all installments, with Chris May producing. All executive produce alongside Idris, and Jane Tranter, Joel Collins & Dan McCulloch for Bad Wolf.
The Lord’s Day is in production in the U.K. It is not expected to debut on Netflix until at least mid-2027.
