‘The Marlow Murder Club’ Smokes Out A Murderer
"The Queen of Poisons Part 2" gets to the bottom of both the mystery of the Mayor’s death and Darius standing up Judith for tea.
Last week’s return to Marlow for Season 3 of The Marlow Murder Club started with the death of the village’s mayor and ended with the trio in the deceased’s house, having just missed nabbing an intruder. Despite the deeply impressive ratio of minutes spent on screen versus his relative fame, Peter Davison’s Mayor Geoffrey Truman indeed had secrets worth being murdered over, including the box of poison-pen letters the suspect dropped in his haste to escape.
DI Tanika Malik is very displeased at her trio of contractors going off half-cocked like this to a murder victim’s house. However, before she can actually scold them for it, Judith deflects with the declaration that she knows who the intruder was: council member Marcus Percival. She and Tanika head off to his office, arriving first so that they catch him struggling into his sport coat, all out of breath when he walks in. Unable to lie his way out of it, Marcus tells them the poison pen letter was sent to him – Geoffrey took it because he was going to investigate. He then claims it’s proof he’s innocent. After all, he was the victim here.
Judith heads off to return Dave Butler’s manuscript to him as repayment for the tip-off to check Geoffrey’s house, and helped them find the poison pen letter. She also has him confirm that despite the sudden trebling of council spending, it was all still signed off on, which means there were receipts for everything.
