‘Marble Hall Murders’ Gets Surreal

The fourth episode of Marble Hall Murders may have finally found its groove. It picks up the pace and injects the additional plot we needed. We learn that Eliot survived being run over, just barely, but is in a coma and clinging to life. The police question Susan as a person of interest, treating her as a key suspect and impounding her car after finding damage to the front grille and fibers that look like Eliot’s jacket.

We’re still lacking development of the central relationship. Many people noted they want more scenes with Susan and Pünd, and I agree. Their interaction is where much of this series’ magic comes from. This episode features exactly one scene between them, and that’s not enough.

But then, much to my delight, the series did something I wasn’t expecting and went off script – literally. At the end of the hour, Pünd and Vassilikos exit the Villa Belmar only to find themselves on a blank background after Eliot, author of their world, dies. I suppose that answers my question about whether Eliot finished his book.

What does this mean for the remaining two episodes? Will Pünd bring Vassilikos to meet Susan? Will she enter their world? How meta will this get?
