The ‘Professor T’ Season 5 Trailer Will Brighten Your Day
Nothing like a sudden death to brighten the day.
Despite launching as an early release for PBS Passport members in August 2026, PBS has only just dropped a trailer and first images for Professor T Season 5, less than a week before the series begins its linear broadcast run on Sunday nights.
To be fair, it’s not really PBS’s fault there hasn’t been a trailer or a batch of first images from the new season. The show’s U.K. distributor, ITV, provides trailers and images and establishes the rules around when and how they can be released. Most of the time this isn’t a problem; Unforgotten, for example, is an ITV show, and the trailers and first images have always shown up when they were supposed to.
However, as we sadly reported in July 2026, ITV is heading directly into its Comcastrophe era. The BBC’s longest-running competitor, and the network no one calls Channel 3, agreed to be bought up by Sky TV. While that deal won’t close until early 2027, the limbo period between merger announcement and the actual physical takeover of assets almost always ends up hamstringing the company being swallowed. (Previous examples we’ve covered here include Paramount+’s disaster marketing strategy for MobLand Season 1, and HBO’s complete failure to tell anyone about Youth before it debuted in September 2026.)
However, ITV’s inability to provide details in anything resembling a timely manner is good news in one sense. Telly Visions is the only site where you can find images, the trailer, the synopsis, and the guest cast, all in one place. You’re welcome, America.
Here’s the Season 5 synopsis, such as it is.
With six brand new episodes featuring some unexpected new relationships and more complex crimes for the Professor and police unit to tackle; including a boxing match that takes a bloody turn and a series of inexplicable sudden deaths at an upmarket spa, many favorite characters will face some tough choices, and the stakes for Professor T and his team have never been higher.

Ben Miller (Death in Paradise) returns as the titular Professor Jasper Tempest; he co-stars with Frances de la Tour (Enola Holmes) as his mother, Adelaide Tempest; Zoe Wanamaker (Bergerac) as his aunt, Zelda Radclyffe; Juliet Stevenson (The Long Call) as therapist Dr. Helena Goldberg; Sunetra Sarker (Playing Nice) as boss DCI Maiya Goswami; Barney White (Masters of the Air) as DS Dan Winters; and Rhian Blundell (Torchwood) as DS Chloe Highsmith.
The supporting cast for Season 5 includes returnees Michael Lumsden (The Crow Girl) as Bob Winters, Douglas Reith (Downton Abbey) as The Dean, and Sarah Woodward (MaryLand) as Ingrid Snares. Season 5 also adds Marc Bannerman (The Witcher) as Chester Vass and Poppy Drayton (The Shannara Chronicles) as Leonie Vass.
Guest stars for Season 5 include Amanda Root (Wolf Hall), Adrian Christopher (COBRA), Eleanor Hafner (Luther), Matt Carver (Blue Lights), Stella Gonet (Traces), James Alexandrou (The Confessions of Frannie Langton), Dan Cade (Nuremberg), Mark Arends (Mr Bates vs the Post Office), Chris Patrick-Simpson (Dalgliesh), Kathryn Pogson (Vera), Freddie Wise (Poldark), and Rhys Yates (Unforgotten).
