‘Trigger Point’ Season 4 Teases This Could Be the End
'Trigger Point' Season 4’s first teaser debuts in the U.K. mere days before Season 3 launches on BritBox.
When Line of Duty went on an extended hiatus after Season 6, its three leads – all of whom had become household names in the interim – headed out to see how they do as solo stars anchoring their own shows. Martin Compston tried a variety of genres from the dull The Rig to the breath-taking Mayflies. Adrian Dunbar tried to be a singing detective in Ridley, but that didn’t last. Only Vicky McClure found immediate out-of-the-box success by sticking with what worked: she took the lead role in Trigger Point, created and directed by Jed Mercurio, the man behind Line of Duty.
Trigger Point’s ultra-early Season 4 renewal by ITV (and the subsequent rush into production) was the canary in the coal mine that Mercurio was working his way towards returning to Line of Duty, since, by that point, only McClure had an active yearly series that required a schedule shift to accommodate a new season. Any chance the sudden jumpstart in producing a Season 4 was unrelated was immediately lost when the BBC confirmed Season 7 and went straight into production mere weeks after Trigger Point Season 4 wrapped.
The only question fans have had since is if McClure returning to Line of Duty is merely a blip in the Trigger Point schedule – one nicely covered by filming so early – or if her return to playing DS Kate Fleming means her time as bomb squad stalwart Lana Washington is coming to an end.
ITV clearly knows this; it’s partly why the new season doesn’t have a synopsis. It’s also why the network dropped the first teaser for Season 4 months earlier than it normally would, before marketing had even released any image, in the middle of the 2026 World Cup broadcast. Most importantly, it explains the clip’s tone, which hints that this may be the series’ final season.
As noted above, there’s still no synopsis for Trigger Point’s fourth season, which is less surprising than you’d think, considering that ITV has been working ridiculously far ahead to make sure it happens. However, since Season 3 is about to debut on BritBox, here’s the synopsis for that:
The third series sees Lana Washington and her team investigate a bomb threat that soon reveals itself to be the start of a sinister vendetta: someone is targeting individuals and demanding revenge. Working alongside the Police Counterterrorism Unit, the Bomb Disposal Squad races against time to find the bomber before they claim their next victim.

Along with McClure, Trigger Point is currently down to only two other actors from Season 1’s original cast for Season 3: Eric Shango (Suspicion) as Danny and Nabil Elouahabi (Unforgotten) as Hassan “Hass” Rahim. The trio will be joined by the two main survivors from Season 2: Natalie Simpson (Outlander) as DSupt. Marianne Hamilton and Maanuv Thiara (D.I. Ray) as DI Amar Batra. The only significant addition for Season 3 is guest star Jason Flemyng (Prime Target).
(At this point, it’s anyone’s guess how much of Season 3’s cast makes it to Season 4.)
Chris Brandon (Bloodlands) took over as lead writer on Seasons 3 and 4 from original writer Daniel Brierley and Season 2’s Simon Ashdown. Directors Jennie Darnell (Line of Duty) and Nirpal Bhogal (D.I. Ray) split helming duties for Season 3, and Darnell also directed Season 4; the series producer remains Kristian Dench. Brandon and McClure executive produce alongside Jed Mercurio, Daniel Walker, and Jessica Sharkey.
Trigger Point Season 3’s two-episode premiere arrives on BritBox on Thursday, June 18, 2026, with weekly episodes to follow on Thursdays through the end of July. Seasons 1 and 2 are available to stream on BritBox. Season 4 is expected to debut on ITV before the end of 2026 and cross the pond sometime in mid-2027.
