Let it never be said that Wrexham AFC does not know how to do drama. As our faithful readers may recall, the release date for Welcome to Wrexham Season 5 was announced in mid-April 2026, the Welsh football club was down to its final slate of games, and teetering on the precipice of making the playoffs, a necessary step towards the current goal of being promoted into the top-tier Premier League. Now, the Season 5 trailer is here, and almost all of those final games have been played and... Wrexham is still on the cusp of making the playoffs.

The men’s team still has one more match to go in the regular season; however, it has already lost one of the six required games to advance on its own merits. Wrexham is not out of contention – not yet anyway. Currently, the club stands 6th in the Championship League, which should be enough to squeak into the playoffs. However, Wrexham’s playoff destiny is no longer fully in their hands to control. Everything is riding on the outcomes of the Middlesbrough vs Wrexham and Hull vs Norwich City games on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

Hull is in 7th place, directly behind Wrexham in the standings; if they beat Norwich (currently ranked 9th) AND Wrexham loses to Middlesbrough (currently ranked 4th), that will be enough to move Hull over Wrexham into 6th place, dashing the team’s chances of making the playoffs and another consecutive promotion. If that weren’t enough, there’s also Derby County FC (currently ranked 8th), which is only a point behind Wrexham and Hull, and could play spoiler by vaulting over both of them to make the playoffs instead.

Got all that? No? That’s ok. Have a trailer.

Here’s the Season 5 synopsis:

Having risen so quickly in the pyramid, with the eyes of the world turned to this once unknown town in Wales, fans and haters across the globe wait with bated breath to see whether the Wrexham experiment will make it all the way to the Premier League or if the team will crumble under the pressure. Summer signings bring a near-new roster and an all-new level of intensity, while heavy competition and rising costs, combined with limited ticket availability due to the construction of the new Kop stand, pose new challenges for the Club. Dedicated staff and supporters celebrate the team’s climb toward the Premiership while bracing against naysayers who cheer for potential relegation. Will Wrexham AFC rise to the challenge and prove they deserve their place among the elite?
With a new coach and a permanent home, Wrexham AFC Women’s Team continues to battle amongst the top teams in the Welsh Adran Premier League and strives to stand out amidst a crowded field of talented women footballers. With new players, continued support from the Club and fans, and building on the groundwork they’ve laid in previous years, the Wrexham Women look to challenge for the top of the League.

Mac and Reynolds continue to star in Wrexham alongside a rotating cast of players, coaching staff, local fans, and celebrity spectators.

(Since the roster is “nearly-new,” it’s better not to speculate which players will still be part of the season, but one assumes even if long-time favorites have to step aside as the club grows, they’ll still be part of the overall narrative.)

The two owners also executive produce Wrexham, along with Josh Drisko, Bryan Rowland, Jeff Luini, Humphrey Ker, Nick Frenkel, George Dewey, and Boardwalk Pictures’ Andrew Fried, Dane Lillegard, Sarina Roma, and Andy Thomas.

Welcome to Wrexham Season 5 is scheduled to debut on Thursday, May 14, 2026, on FXX and Hulu with two episodes. The eight-episode series will then follow a weekly release schedule on Thursdays through the beginning of July. The series has already been renewed through Season 8.
