‘This City Is Ours’ Continues the Fight for Possession in Season 3

Ahead of This City Is Ours Season 2’s BBC debut, the British broadcaster has confirmed Season 3 is a go. While Season 2 still doesn’t have a confirmed U.S. release date, the renewal will likely cement AMC Global’s commitment to keeping it on its flagship streaming service, AMC+.
This City Is Ours was a smash hit for the BBC when it originally debuted in March 2025. Season 1 was a critical darling and a BAFTA nominee, with ~6.3 million viewers watching the full series on iPlayer, and the first episode drew more than 8.4 million viewers. Season 2 is expected to match those numbers in the U.K. when the series returns at the end of October 2026.
However, the series didn’t make a giant splash when it debuted on AMC+ in early 2026. It’s far from the first time an American platform has failed to launch a BBC hit in the U.S., though in this case it was less about a lack of marketing and more due to the streaming service still being painfully mired behind its competitors. However, since Season 1 aired and streamed, the network landed a big boost from the debut of The Vampire Lestat, bringing in a host of new subscribers the platform hopes to capitalize on. It also helps that the parent company has started streamlining its brands, with AMC+ now fully focused on gangland and urban fantasy stories. By the time Season 2 crosses the pond, AMC may be ready to take advantage of the winds blowing its way.
Since Season 2 hasn’t even debuted in the U.K. and won’t arrive in the States until 2027, there’s no synopsis for Season 3 available. However, series creator Stephen Butchard said in a statement:
“Following the quite breathtaking response to series one, myself, the cast and our wonderful crew were all determined not to drop the ball and endeavor to deliver an even better series two! No spoilers, but I’m hoping this fantastic early commission from the BBC for a third series suggests we may have come close to doing just that! I hope you enjoy series two as much as we enjoyed making it - can’t wait to do it all over again!”
It probably also won’t surprise anyone that, since no one knows who will still be alive at the end of Season 2, no cast has been confirmed for Season 3. However, we expect everyone from the main roster who survives the Season 2 finale to return. That currently includes James Nelson Joyce (A Thousand Blows), Hannah Onslow (This Is Going to Hurt), Jack McMullen (Hijack), Julie Graham (Time), Mike Noble (The Long Shadow), Saoirse-Monica Jackson (Derry Girls), Adam Abbou (Time), Laura Aikman (Archie), Kevin Harvey (Treason), and Darci Shaw (The Irregulars). While we would also hope to see Shaun Evans (Endeavour) and Álvaro Morte (The Wheel of Time) return for a third season, both are only listed as guest stars for Season 2 at this time.
Butchard (The Last Kingdom) returns as lead writer on the eight-episode series with Robbie O’Neill. Director Saul Dibb (The Sixth Commandment) returns, this time splitting helming duties with Chris Baugh (In Flight), with Simon Maloney and Nathan Juckes producing. Butchard and Dibb executive produce with Andy Harries, Rebecca Hodgson & Sian McWilliams for Left Bank Pictures, and Jo McClellan for the BBC.
This City Is Ours Season 2 premieres on BBC One on Sunday, October 25, 2026, with episodes airing weekly on Sundays and Mondays through early November. All episodes will be available on iPlayer from premiere day.
The new season is expected to follow in the U.S. in early 2027. Season 1 is streaming on AMC+.
