'Heartstopper Forever' Finale Movie Will Premiere in July
Charlie and Nick's love story will get a proper ending this summer.
Four years to the day after the first season of Heartstopper premiered on Netflix, the final installment will arrive. The streamer announced that the franchise’s finale movie, titled Heartstopper Forever, will hit screens in July.
It’s not the fourth season that fans of the popular LGBTQ+ series wanted, but it does mean that Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie’s (Joe Locke) love story will at least get a proper ending. The film will pick up almost immediately after the Season 3 finale, which saw the pair and several of their friends take their relationships to the next level. But as they prepare for the next stage of their lives, they’ll have to navigate the bittersweet challenges and difficult transitions that are part and parcel of growing up. Can first love really last forever? Or will the prospect of a long-distance relationship become too much for them both?
The bulk of the series’ cast is returning for this final send-off, including Yasmin Finney (Doctor Who), Corinna Brown (In Flight), William Gao (Breakwater), Kizzy Edgell (Dead Red Kite), Tobie Donovan (Lynley), Jenny Walser (Sweetpea), Rhea Norwood (Pride and Prejudice), and Leila Khan (Crookhaven).
Unfortunately, due to scheduling issues, Olivia Colman (The Roses) won’t be in the film, and the role of Nick’s mother, Sarah Nelson, will be played by Anna Maxwell Martin (Ludwig).
Here’s the synopsis.
Nick and Charlie are inseparable, but with Nick preparing to leave for university and Charlie finding new independence at school, the reality of a long-distance relationship begins to weigh on them. Doubts take hold, and their relationship faces its biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, their friends are also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship, confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on. Can first loves really last forever?
The July finale date won’t come as a huge surprise to fans — author Alice Oseman previously stated that the Netflix adaptation wouldn’t arrive before the publication of the final book, Heartstopper Volume 6, which is now scheduled to arrive a week before the finale’s premiere.
“On a basic level, of course, I want the movie to be a beautiful and emotional send-off for the Heartstopper story — celebrating what Heartstopper means to people, while offering a chance to say goodbye to our beloved characters, and many hints of what’s to come in the characters’ future lives,” Oseman told Netflix’s Tudum. On a slightly deeper level, I think this movie will explore what makes love survive, or what elevates it, or deepens it.”
Oseman penned the film, adapted from her forthcoming final volume, with director Wash Westmoreland (Still Alice) stepping in for Euros Lyn, who helped all three seasons of the series. Oseman, Lyn, Connor, and Locke are all executive producers, alongside Patrick Walters, Iain Canning, and Emile Sherman.
Heartstopper Forever will premiere on Netflix on Friday, July 17, 2026. Heartstopper Seasons 1 through 3 are streaming on Netflix. Heartstopper Volume 6 will be released at all major retailers on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
