‘The Marlow Murder Club’ Aims to Solve “Murder in the Dark”

This week’s cold open begins with the murder of Becks Starling in a remote country house in the middle of the night. She’s lost this round of Murder in the Dark, a popular social deception game much like the hit reality show The Traitors, “killed” by fellow uni alum Una (Montserrat Lombard). But never fear! Una declares there’s time for one more round, and this time, Becks draws The Joker, designating her the murderer.

There are six players altogether – Becks and Una, plus Jessica (Endy McKay), Oskar (Christian Rubeck), Ryan (Samuel Barnett), and Freddie (Dominic Tighe); the house is a rental for their reunion. Most of the gang is into the game, except Freddie, who – very understandably – isn’t a fan of organized fun. Naturally, he’s who Becks finds and “kills,” and while he insists he won’t lie down on the floor and play dead, he agrees to give her ten seconds to get out of the library before shouting his “dying” cry.

If it seems to take slightly longer than that for his yell to echo through the house, that’s because he was clearly interrupted... by being actually murdered.

Tanika and her team arrive in short order, and she gently suggests Becks not call Judith and Suzie, but of course, she’s far too late. Becks called them right after she called the cops, and they’re already at the door.
