‘The Undeclared War’ Returns to Peacock in August
'The Undeclared War' Season 2 has an under-reported release date on Peacock.
On the heels of The Capture Season 3 arriving on Peacock, but before Vigil Season 3 gets a release date on this side of the pond, U.S. viewers will be treated to a second season of another underwatched/mismarketed British series, The Undeclared War. The Channel 4 series, which stars Simon Pegg as the Government Communications Headquarters Head of Operations (GCHQ), debuted four years ago in 2022 to little fanfare and low viewership. However, Channel 4 renewed it in 2025 (much to everyone’s surprise), and now, just over a year later, there’s finally a release date.
The second season adds a fun twist to the series’ original timeline: when Season 1 aired in early 2022, it was set in “the near future” of 2024. Season 2 will pick up directly following the events of the first season, still in 2024, which, by the time the series airs in 2026, means Season 2 occurred in the recent past.
Thus far, 2026 has been close to a banner year in the platform’s British programming – the debut of PONIES, plus new seasons of The Capture, Vigil, and now The Undeclared War, on top of more Traitors U.K. and The Celebrity Traitors. But Peacock’s refusal to stream British shows weekly and its rare pickup of new titles mean there are times when the service goes through full years without anything other than the occasional Traitors U.K. binge. Meanwhile, PONIES hasn’t been renewed; Ben Chanan didn’t rule out The Capture Season 4 in our interview, but he didn’t confirm one either; and Vigil doesn’t have a Season 4 lined up either. Until Peacock gets serious about having year-round British offerings, it’s doing a disservice to shows like The Undeclared War.
Here’s the Season 2 synopsis:
Set in 2024, The Undeclared War returns with a fresh wave of tension and drama as the UK’s GCHQ grapples with the aftermath of a devastating Russian cyber-attack. Just when it seems the UK has gained the upper hand, the team uncovers a far more dangerous threat.

Pegg (Star Trek) returns as Danny Patrick, Director of Operations at GCHQ, with Season 1 co-star Hannah Khalique-Brown (Black Doves) as Saara Parvin, the coder still on placement at GCHQ. The rest of the returning ensemble includes Alex Jennings (The Crown) as Danny’s boss, David Neal, and Ed Stoppard (Home Fires) as Foreign Secretary Richard Marston.
Season 2 adds Siân Brooke (Blue Lights) as Danny’s ex-wife, Barbara Patrick, now a GCHQ analyst; Danny Sapani (The Diplomat) as Head of Security Charlie Francis; Chloe Pirrie (War & Peace) as Director of Rapid Response, Lt Colonel Roz Cavendish; and German Segal (Wolf Hall) as Russian Vadim Trusov.

Writer Colin Teevan (Das Boot) and director Paul McGuigan (Sherlock) return for the show’s second season, with Teevan once again penning all six installments, McGuigan helming, and Caroline Levy producing. Teevan and McGuigan executive produce with series co-creators Stonehenge Films’ Peter Kosminsky and Colin Callender, the latter of whom produces for Playground alongside Daniel Gratton and Noëlette Buckley.
The Undeclared War Season 2 will debut on Peacock in the U.S. on Thursday, August 27, 2026. Channel 4 has not announced a release date in the U.K., but we expect it will be sometime around then as well. Season 1 is available to stream on both platforms.
