‘Yaga’s Trailer Will Prepare You for “Season of the Witch”
'Yaga's trailer jams out to Alanis Morissette because that’s how Canada rolls.
Oh Canada! Our hockey-loving neighbors to the north – who Peggy Hill once referred to as “America’s Hat” – sit in a weird place when it comes to Telly Visions coverage. Like Australia and New Zealand, it’s part of the British Commonwealth, and its homegrown series (especially the non-contemporary ones) tend to veer near enough to our writ to count. For example, Murdoch Mysteries is a no-brainer for us to cover: it’s period-set, long-running, and has aired in second run on local PBS stations. The same is true for all the Québécois-language shows that are included under Channel 4’s Walter Present umbrella.
However, beyond that, it’s a judgment call. Schitt’s Creek, for example, didn’t really fall into our purview; Frankie Drake Mysteries did. Shoresy really doesn’t count (we’re sorry!); Alias Grace was our jam and then some.
(It was also better than The Handmaid’s Tale. I said what I said.)
This brings us to Yaga, which is technically contemporary set. However, it’s also supernatural, and fits well with the current AMC+ “Gangsters & Ghouls” branding the streaming service has leaned into since the success of Interview with the Vampire. Set beside shows like Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale, Domino Day: Lone Witch, and The Midwitch Cuckoos, all of which we covered, and you can see why we decidced this one gets to count.

Here’s the series’ synopsis.
Yaga follows Rapp, a private investigator who arrives in a small coastal town to investigate the disappearance of a young heir to a powerful fishery, Henry Park. He finds himself at odds with an apprehensive local detective, Carson, a charismatic university professor with a taste for younger men, Katherine, and a labyrinth of enigmatic suspects, secret lives, and ancient magic.
The ensemble cast includes Carrie-Anne Moss (The Acolyte) as university instructor Katherine, Hudson Williams (Heated Rivalry) in the dual roles of Henry Park and Logan, Noah Reid (The Vampire Lestat) as private investigator Rapp, and Clark Backo (Letterkenny) as local detective Carson.
The supporting cast includes Sheila McCarthy (The Miniature Wife), Katharine Isabelle (Ghosts), Hiro Kanagawa (Shogun), Megan Follows (Murdoch Mysteries), Ezra Franky (Untamed), Patrick Gilmore (School Spirits), Emilija Baranac (The Midnight Club), Georgia Acken (Under the Bridge), Anisa Harris (Yellowjackets), and Sam Krochmal (Voicemails for Isabelle).

The series is based on the play by Kat Sadler (Kim’s Convenience)*, who also serves as the series’ showrunner and writer, with David Frazee (Vikings) and Rachel Talalay (Good Omens) directing and Charles Cooper as producer.
(*Not to be confused with the other writer/comedian Kat Sadler, who wrote and stars in Such Brave Girls.)

Yaga will debut on AMC+ on Friday, October 23, 2026, with two episodes, followed by one a week before, culminating in a two-part finale at the end of November.
