The 'You're Killing Me' Trailer Has a Distinctly American Charm
The trailer for Brooke Shields' cozy crime series 'You're Killing Me' is charming, despite being American as apple pie.
Acorn TV has released the trailer for its latest cozy mystery, You’re Killing Me, which is breaking new ground for the streamer in an unexpected way. Though the series ticks all the boxes of its traditional hits — quirky characters, murders, and a strikingly picturesque setting. But this time around, that setting is most decidedly not British. This time around, Acorn TV is making a fully American crime drama, from its location to its stars, and hoping its audience will love the genre enough to come along for the ride.
Despite looking and sounding like nothing else currently on the streamer — New England coastal vibes, while quaint, are fairly far removed from Oxford or Midsummer, after all — the feel is surprisingly similar. There’s snappy banter, an odd couple central dynamic (in more ways than one), and the promise of a flirty will-they/won’t-they romance at the show’s center. Yeah, we’ve definitely seen all of that before, and enjoyed it even if the accents are different this time around.
The series follows Allie (Brooke Shields), a popular mystery author who teams up with a podcaster and aspiring writer (Amalia Williamson) in the hopes of using her skills at solving crimes in various fictional worlds to investigate the death of a friend in the real one. Former The Flash actor Tom Cavanagh plays Jack, the new lead detective on the local police department, who is himself trying to adjust to the oddities of life in a small town.
Here’s the series’ synopsis.
Set in a quaint, New England town, the mystery follows bestselling novelist, Allie, who forms an unlikely alliance with an aspiring writer and podcaster, Andi , to find the killer of a close friend. Jack is the new lead detective of the local Police Department and former city slicker who is trying to acclimate to the quirks of small-town life.
The six-part series is created by Robin Bernheim Burger (Mother of the Bride), with James Genn (The Good Doctor), Scott Smith (The Magicians), and Paul Fox (Schitt’s Creek) each directing a pair of episodes. Bernheim, Shields, and Genn are all executive producers, alongside Michael Volpe for Topsail and Christina Jennings and Scott Garvie for Shaftesbury.
You’re Killing Me will premiere on Monday, May 18, 2026, on Acorn TV, with new episodes to follow weekly through mid-June.
