Everything British Worth Streaming in August 2026

We’re coming up on five years since the apex of Peak TV, when 599 new shows premiered in 2022. (This is compared to ~400 in 2012, the year before the streaming wars began.) In the intervening years, the number of shows being released has started settling back down to a more reasonable level; more importantly, these shows are no longer being released willy-nilly on any old service that buys them. Mainstream American services (well, some of them) have remembered that once upon a time they had specific brand hallmarks that drew audiences in, and have stopped mindlessly gobbling up anything that looks “prestige.”

For niche services like BritBox and the AMC Global federation of streaming apps, this is the inflection point their parent companies have been waiting for as they white-knuckle through the Great Rebundling. We haven’t quite reached the point when they only have each other (and PBS) to compete against. Still, the list for August of what is coming to mainstream services is short enough that, for the first time since 2012, it feels like the entertainment world is finally moving in a positive direction.

As a reminder, even though Starz and MGM+ do not appear this month, both continue with new episodes of Fightland and The Westies, respectively. Also, Apple TV will premiere new episodes of Trying Season 5 through the end of the month.

Let’s run down all the British titles coming to our shores, such as they are, on the major streaming services for July 2026.

Ted Lasso Season 4

BELIEVE: Ted Lasso is officially back for a fourth season most assumed wouldn’t happen, and its return may yet very well prove them right that it shouldn’t have. Oh well, Apple’s still new here; these things happen. If you’re really into Jason Sudeikis’s unique brand of kitchsy wholesomeness, tune in. It can’t be worse than Season 3, right?

Ted Lasso Season 4 will premiere on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, on Apple TV, with new episodes to follow weekly through the beginning of October.

Alley Cats

Ricky Gervais lives and breathes and apparently needs to keep making money, probably because he forgot to invest wisely. Lucky for us, he’s learned we’re all tired of his face, so Alley Cats is an animated series where he and his buddies are cats, and hopefully that makes them palatable. If they’re not, it’s fine. It’s Netflix. No one will notice.

All episodes of Alley Cats arrive on Netflix on Friday, August 7, 2026.

My Brilliant Career

A surprise last-minute pick-up, Netflix scooped up the global rights to stream the Australian period drama My Brilliant Career in mid-July. The forthcoming historical series is based on the popular novel by Miles Franklin, and is set in late nineteenth-century Australia, featuring Sybylla Melvyn, who dreams of becoming a successful writer instead of a housewife.  

My Brilliant Career premieres with all episodes on Thursday, August 13, 2026, on Netflix.

The Airport Chaplain

An even more last-minute addition, Netflix made a deal to stream Australian contemporary drama, The Airport Chaplain, two days before the beginning of August. The eight-part series stars Hugo Weaving (Slow Horses) as Tobias Wallace, an airport terminal chaplain who helps shepherd travelers on their way around the world, and The Pitt’s Shabana Azeez as his new boss.

The Airport Chaplain will premiere with all episodes on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, on Netflix.

The Undeclared War Season 2

You all heard Peacock is going to be bundled with YouTube Premium starting in 2027, right? That squawk you heard was the first in a series of death cries that herald the slow end of this bird of a streaming service. Unfortunately (much like MGM+), that death will be slow and drawn out, and British shows like The Undeclared War will continue to be caught in its maw, as stars are pulled towards a black hole’s singularity. Tragic.

The Undeclared War Season 2 will debut on Peacock with all episodes on Thursday, August 27, 2026.
