ITV’s ‘Gone’ Goes to BritBox
As expected, ITV's series 'Gone,' which aired in February 2026, has landed American distribution, heading to BritBox in time for summer.
When running down all the ITV commissions we missed over the Telly Visions hiatus, a few stuck out as obvious candidates to cross the pond sooner rather than later. One of those titles was the series Gone, which debuted in February 2026. The series had multiple things going for it, including two major British TV stars who were known in the U.S. It was also a police procedural, with a case involving the U.K.’s school system, which is just different enough from the American education system that Anglophiles find it fascinating. With all that going for it, it seems less a question of “if it gets picked up” and more a question of “who will grab it when.”
The answer, it turns out, was “BritBox” and “quickly.” While the niche streaming service hasn’t given a firm release date for Gone as yet, it was announced as part of the upcoming summer 2026 slate, along with one of BritBox’s most anticipated titles for 2026, A Woman of Substance.
In effect, BritBox is borrowing from the long-time PBS playbook here. For decades, public television has programmed the Sunday Night lineup of British offerings that are one part murder mystery/police procedural and one part costume drama. It’s an effective way to draw fans in, offering something for everyone. (To quote the 1980s proto-meme, they have both kinds, country and western!) With BritBox banking on subscribers signing up for the premiere of The Other Bennet Sister, having both ready to go directly following is a smart play to keep churn to a minimum.

Eve Myles and David Morrissey in 'Gone' (ITV/BritBox)
Here’s the synopsis:
Set against the backdrop of a prestigious private school, a foreboding forest, and the quiet sprawl of Bristol, Gone is a chilling mystery focusing on local Headmaster Michael Polly, who becomes the prime suspect in his wife Sarah’s disappearance. An upstanding member of the community, Michael Polly is inscrutable and values order and precision in his work. Until that is, he encounters super-bright, gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, and a compulsive game of cat and mouse begins as she chips away at his veneer in search of the truth.
The six-part series stars Eve Myles (Torchwood) as Detective Annie Cassidy and David Morrissey (Sherwood) as local school Headmaster Michael Polly, the main suspect in her latest case. Emma Appleton (The Killing Kind) co-stars as Michael and Sarah’s adult daughter, Alana, who also teaches at her father’s institution.
The rest of the cast includes Jodie McNee (The Marlow Murder Club), Rupert Evans (Moonflower Murders), Jennifer Macbeth (Grace), Arthur Hughes (Criminal Record), Amy Marston (Operation Mincemeat), Peter McDonald (This Town), Claire Goose (Dalgliesh), Nicholas Nunn (Time), Clare Higgins (Silent Witness), Elliot Cowan (The Jetty), Dorian Simpson (Bridgerton), and Oscar Batterham (A Spy Among Friends).

The series was created and written by George Kay (Hijack), partly inspired by the book To Hunt a Killer by former Detective Superintendent for Gloucestershire Police Julie Mackay and ITV Crime Correspondent Robert Murphy, both of whom served as consultants on the fictional series. Director Richard Laxton (Poldark) helmed all episodes, with Mark Hedges producing. Kay executive produces alongside Willow Grylls and Matt Sandford.
Gone will debut on BritBox in the U.S. in mid-2026.
