Masterpiece fans already know that there's nothing quite like Anthony Horowitz's Susan Ryeland series. A meta mystery trilogy about a book editor who finds herself embroiled in real-life cases that have surprising tie-ins to the world of the fictional detective she's reading about, both Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders were hits with critics and fans alike. But all good things must come to an end. Marble Hall Murders, the series's third and final installment, will officially premiere in September 2026.

The story's final chapter will follow Susan Ryeland as she works on a continuation of the popular Atticus Pünd series, only to find herself cast as a suspect in a very real murder case. The show will simultaneously follow the fictional Pünd as he investigates a murder on the Isle of Corfu, weaving its story into Susan's.

Oscar nominee Lesley Manville (Sherwood) stars as Susan, opposite Tim McMullan (The Crown) as the fictional crimesolver Atticus Pünd. In the real-world storyline, Ryeland will work with Elliot Krace, a new continuity author who's been brought in to write the next Pünd novel.

"Krace is a very damaged character with a dark secret buried in his childhood," Horowitz told Telly Visions in a 2024 Moonflower Murders interview. "He's hiding that secret in his book even as he writes it, and Susan realizes he could be writing a suicide note. So, she's trying to help and stop him from getting into trouble."

Here's the synopsis.

In Marble Hall Murders, Editor Susan Ryeland is hired to work on a continuation novel of the Atticus Pünd series, written by a troubled young author. When the job leads Susan into another murder case, she unexpectedly finds herself a suspect. In the world of the novel, Atticus Pünd is visiting the island of Corfu when he becomes embroiled in the murder of Lady Margaret Chalfont, whose family he investigates with the assistance of a Greek detective.

Alongside Manville and McMullan, a host of new faces are joining the series' cast, including Jamie Blackley (Outrageous), Mark Bonnar (Ludwig), Daniel Cerqueira (This City is Ours), Patricia Hodge (All Creatures Great & Small), Harry Lloyd (I, Jack Wright), Rupert Penry-Jones (The Feud on Shelbury Drive), Anneika Rose (Line of Duty), Danny Sapani (Killing Eve), and Zubin Varla (Andor). Many of the cast will be performing dual roles as characters in the contemporary world of the show and as fictional versions within the 1955 Golden Age book story.

Horowitz wrote all six episodes, adapted from his novel of the same name. Director Rebecca Gatward helmed all installments, with Suzanne McAuley producing. Executive producers are Jill Green for Eleventh Hour Films and Susanne Simpson for Masterpiece.

Marble Hall Murders will premiere on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at 9 p.m. alongside Season 3 of The Marlow Murder Club on most local PBS stations, the PBS app, and the PBS Masterpiece Prime Video Channel. All episodes will be available on premiere day for PBS Passport members. As always, check your local listings.
