‘The Chelsea Detective’ Season 4 Sets August Arrival on Acorn
'The Chelsea Detective' returns to London's toniest neighborhood to solve more crimes.
Most of Acorn TV’s successes in the last two years have been with police procedurals that focus on some of the more obscure branches of law enforcement or on oddball investigators. There’s Art Detectives’ Heritage Crime Unit and Hidden Assets’ Criminal Assets Bureau for the former; Irish Blood’s Los Angeles Lawyer and Harry Wild’s retired English professor for the latter. However, some of Acorn TV’s series work simply because they are straightforward procedurals with offbeat suspects.
Such is the case with The Chelsea Detective, where two relatively normal cops solve what on the surface look like standard-issue cases. The difference is that all of the illegalities take place in London’s Chelsea District, a neighborhood where being a millionaire means you’re barely considered middle class. When everyone who could be a suspect is either an out-of-touch billionaire or the seventh-generation scion of an aristocratic family who can trace their lineage back to 1066 and all that, nothing is going to go the way anyone expects.
Originally launched during the height of the pandemic, The Chelsea Detective has been one of Acorn TV’s sleeper hits of the 2020s, steadily growing its fan base the longer it stays on the air. With Season 4 now slated to arrive during the dog days of summer, this is a show ready to keep you cool with its stories of cold-hearted gentry and cool schadenfreude.
Here’s the Season 4 synopsis.
Season 4 sees DI Max Arnold and DS Layla Walsh return to tackle four new murders within the elite world of Chelsea – a fashion mogul sinking fast in the trappings of her wealth; an aristocratic dynasty guarding their bloodline with brutal devotion; and a wellness and beauty salon owner concealing lethal truths – all falling under the relentless scrutiny of our duo.
This season also features a cryptic double-murder that begins in Chelsea and spirals outward, drawing our team into the cut-throat world of architecture. The regular cast return to crack each case and – while a hint of romance is in the air for Max – as ever, the road to justice is anything but smooth.

(Acorn TV)
Adrian Scarborough (Killing Eve) reprises his role as Detective Inspector Max Arnold, with Vanessa Emme (Dublin Murders) returning once again as his partner, Detective Sergeant Layla Walsh. Sophie Stone (Sheltland) also returns as the brilliant, if occasionally daunting, Chief Forensics Officer Ashley Wilton, with Lucy Phelps (Grace) as research and tech queen DC Jess Lombard, Peter Bankolé (Peaky Blinders) as officer DC Connor Pollock, and Frances Barber (Whitstable Pearl) as Max’s Aunt Olivia.
The series is produced by Acorn TV’s Acorn Media Enterprises, Germany’s ZDF, and the BBC Studios-invested indie Expectation. Season 4 episodes are written by Fincham, Glen Laker (Vera) and Liz Lake (The Hardacres), with Richard Signy (Death in Paradise) and Audrey Cooke (Trigger Point) directing. It is executive-produced by Fincham and produced by Ella Kelly.
The Chelsea Detective Season 4 premieres on Acorn TV on Monday, August 3, 2026, and streams new episodes weekly through the end of the month.
