The ‘Enola Holmes 3’ Trailer Reveals Its Big Twist

Netflix finally reveals the plot of 'Enola Holmes 3' in the new trailer, and we don’t understand why it didn’t lead with this.

Netflix was not the one to start the “spoiler” discourse – that was entirely on WarnerMedia and Disney, who were struggling in the face of rabid comic book, Star Wars, and Westerosi fanbases in the early twenty-teens. However, the streaming service came into its own during the peak of what we’ll politely call “the spoiler madness years,” and absorbed some of its worst impulses as a baseline. It’s why many of Netflix’s high-profile projects don’t give more than a cursory synopsis until close to the release date, and sometimes not even then.

Such is the case with the third installment in the hit Enola Holmes film franchise. The synopsis (which you’ll find below the new trailer) is as useless as it’s ever been, some mealy-mouthed mumbo jumbo about this being Enola’s hardest case to date. Nearly all the marketing has focused on the film’s romance subplot, where Enola (Millie Bobby Brown) finally marries her now-fiancé, Tewkesbury (Louis Partridge), in an echo of Brown’s own real-life wedding, which occurred between the release of the second Enola Holmes film and this one.

(Said wedding-focused marketing continues apace in the new images below, which mostly feature Brown and Partridge in various wedding clothes when they aren’t being shown confronting bad guys as a team.)

However, as has been the case with many shows that needlessly kept their plots under wraps, this is actually detrimental to the film. It turns out Enola Holmes’ third installment is turning the tables on its regular formula, and going all in on making Enola the Greatest Holmes Of All Time (the GHOAT?), when she’s handed a case no one can solve: The Disappearance of Sherlock Holmes.

Here’s the movie’s less-than-useful synopsis, which does not once ask how one manages to hide the most Absolute Unit Sherlock Holmes ever committed to screen:

Adventure chases detective Enola Holmes to Malta, where personal and professional dreams collide on a case more tangled and treacherous than any she has faced before.

As has been the case since the franchise’s inception, Enola Holmes 3 will once again star Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) as the titular Enola, now co-billing alongside Partridge (Disclaimer) as Tewkesbury. Most of the core cast from the first two films also returned for the third outing, including Henry Cavill (The Witcher) as the currently misplaced Absolute Unit Sherlock, and Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown) as the Holmes matriarch, Eudoria. Sadly, Sam Claflin (who was off filming The Count of Monte Cristo) will not return as the elder and less absolute unit-sized Mycroft, but it’s not like he’d be very useful in hunting down his larger sibling anyway.

The rest of the returning cast includes franchise regulars Adeel Akhtar (Sherwood) as Lestrade, Himesh Patel (The Franchise) as Watson, Sharon Duncan-Brewster (Dune) as Moriarty, and Susan Wokoma (Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew) as Edith.

The third Enola Holmes film was penned by Jack Thorne (Adolescence) and directed by Philip Barantini (Boiling Point). Brown remains the lead executive producer of the Enola Holmes franchise, which is one she’s been the driving force behind since its inception, based on Nancy Springer’s middle-grade children’s book series. The project continues to be a family affair, with husband Jake Bongiovi, father Robert Brown, plus Thorne, Michael Dreyer, Joshua Grode & Isobel Richards executive producing, alongside Mary ParentAli Mendes, and Alex Garcia for Legendary Entertainment.

Enola Holmes 3 will premiere on Netflix on Wednesday, July 1, 2026. The first two films are available to stream now.
